Exploring Effector Mechanisms Mediated by Inflammasomes

At the Bortoluci Lab, we are dedicated to unraveling the complex molecular pathways that govern inflammasome activation and their crucial role in host defense against infections.
Inflammasomes are cytosolic platforms activated in response to infections and cellular disturbances. These platforms orchestrate the activation of inflammatory caspases-1/11, leading to the secretion of IL-1beta, and IL-18, and the induction of pyroptosis. Our research group is particularly interested in uncovering novel effector mechanisms mediated by inflammasomes and understanding their impact on macrophages and brain cells during infectious and inflammatory contexts.
